macOS - OpenVPN DPI


Here you can find setup information for your chosen VPN and also how to fix any problems you might encounter.

You can use the Table of Contents on the right hand side of this window to navigate between the different sections.

This setup guide is for OpenVPN DPI, which is sometimes needed from some censored or restricted locations - to bypass VPN filtering/blocking.



Problems since Tunnelblick 4.0.0?

If you have upgraded to Tunnelblick 4.0.0 and now have problems connect to and/or using the VPN, please read the below article for fixes:

Install Guide


Step 1
Retrieve your VPN username and VPN password from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:


Please note, the below is a screenshot of the Client Area. Use the link above, to access the Client Area.




Step 2
Download Tunnelblick, using the link below, this is the software that will connect you to the StreamVia network:




Step 3
Double-click the file you downloaded in Step 2 above, you should then see a screen similar the below.

Double-click again on Tunnelblick to begin the install.




Step 4
If you are shown a screen similar to the below, click Open




Step 5
Click Continue




Step 6
You will be prompted for your macOS/computer username and password, not your VPN username/password.

The username is usually correctly pre-populated, so enter your macOS password, then click OK




Step 7
Click I have configuration files.




Step 8
Click OK if shown a window similar to the below, we will install the configuration files next!




Step 9
Open the below link in your web browser, this contains our macOS OpenVPN DPI configuration files.

We recommend you use Safari so it looks the same as our screenshots.




Step 10
With the link in Step 9 open, you will see a list of configuration files, similar to the below screenshot.

You should select the location you want to appear to be in; UK for UK sites, USA for USA sites, etc.

Click on an option name, to download that configuration file.


Which options should I use?!

  • Port 1, 2 are labelled 'Performance', these are typically the fastest
  • Port 3, 4 are labelled 'Fallback', these may be required from some restricted locations
  • We recommend you experiment, to see which works best for you.




Step 11
Click Allow if shown a window similar to the below.




Step 12
In the top right-hand corner of your Safari browser window, click the down arrow in a circle, this will show your downloaded files.

Double-click on the 'SV - xxxxx.ovpn' file you downloaded above, this will then begin the VPN configuration install.




Step 13
Assuming you only have 1 user on your computer, click Only Me




Step 14
You will be prompted for your macOS/computer username and password, not your VPN username/password.

The username is usually correctly pre-populated, so enter your macOS password, then click OK




Step 15
To connect the VPN, click the tunnel icon in your menu bar (top right-hand corner of your screen), a menu will then pop-down.

Click Connect next to the option you wish to connect, if you imported multiple you will see a list.




Step 16
You will be prompted for your VPN username and VPN Password, retrieved in Step 1 of this guide.

Enter your VPN username and VPN Password, enabling Save in Keychain if you wish to save the credentials.

Click OK to connect.




Step 17
To disconnect, click the tunnel icon in your menu bar (top right-hand corner of your screen), a menu will then pop-down.

Click Disconnect


Fixing Problems

Authentication Failed


Possible causes:

  • Wrong username/password, this is the most common, please see the steps below
  • Your account is suspended/expired
  • You have too many devices concurrently connected for your account
  • You do not have access to this server with your account



Step 1
Retrieve your VPN username and VPN password from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:

Step 2
Click Delete saved password and try again





Step 3
You will be prompted for your VPN username and VPN Password, retrieved in Step 1 above.

Enter your VPN username and VPN Password, enabling Save in Keychain if you wish to save the credentials.

Click OK to connect.

Step 1
Open the below link in your web browser, this contains our macOS OpenVPN DPI configuration files.

We recommend you use Safari so it looks the same as our screenshots.




Step 2
With the link in Step 1 above open, you will see a list of configuration files, similar to the below screenshot.

You should select the location you want to appear to be in; UK for UK sites, USA for USA sites, etc.

Click on an option name, to download that configuration file.
