Sky+ HD Box - SmartStream


Here you can find SmartStream setup information for your chosen device and also which services you can access whilst using SmartStream.

Please follow the correct guide depending on how your box is connected to your router, i.e Cabled vs Wireless.


Install Guide

Cabled/Ethernet Guide


This guide is for boxes that are connected via cable/Ethernet only, please scroll down to the 'Wireless Guide' if using wireless/wifi instead.


Step 1
Choose the closest SmartStream DNS server to your current location using the below list, you will need this later.




Step 2
Retrieve your VPN username and password, if you are a new member this is contained in the StreamVia Account Information email you received after ordering.




Step 3
Press Services on your Sky remote control.


Step 4
Navigate right, using the right arrow, and select Settings then press the Select button


Step 5
Scroll right to Network then press the Select button


Step 6
Press the Green Button for Manual IP Configuration


Step 7
Scroll down to DNS


Step 8
Key in the DNS server number that you chose in Step 1 of this guide, the numbers need to be entered in groups of three so you may need to prefix a number zero to make up the digits.

For example if your chosen DNS server is 217.147.94.138, then you should key in 217 147 094 138 on your remote (prefixing a zero to 94 to make it 3 digits). You do not need to enter the periods/full stops, the Sky Box will do this automatically.


Step 9
Once the DNS field has been entered correctly press the Green Button to Save Settings


Step 10
Unplug the power to your Sky+ HD box, wait 10 seconds, then power it back up again


Step 11
Use the below link to sign in to SmartStream using your VPN username and password, this will activate SmartStream for your current broadband IP address. It is recommended you do this from a computer.

Should your broadband connection IP address change (if your router restarts or your ISP resets your connection) you will need to repeat this step of signing in, to update our systems.





Wireless Guide


Step 1
Choose the closest SmartStream DNS server to your current location using the below list, you will need this later.




Step 2
Retrieve your VPN username and password, if you are a new member this is contained in the StreamVia Account Information email you received after ordering.




Step 3
Press Services on your Sky remote control.


Step 4
Navigate right, using the right arrow, and select Settings then press the Select button


Step 5
Scroll right to Network then press the Select button


Step 6
If there is already some network configuration and the Sky box is already connected to your wifi router press the Red Button for Reset, please Select to confirm


Step 7
Now, join the Skybox to your router again with 'Connect with password', when it shows you a list of wifi networks select your network name


Step 8
Enter your wifi password, be careful as this is case sensitive and the Sky remote shows upper case and numbers before lower case characters, press Select once done


Step 9
Sky box will display connect to the network and then say 'Your Sky+ HD box is now connected to your broadband router'. Now, please press Back Up on the remote to view the network settings


Step 10
Write down the following, be very careful with numbers for the IP address

  • IP Address of this Sky box
  • Network Name
  • Security Type



Step 11
Press the green button on the remote for 'Manual Wireless Configuration'


Step 12
Manually configure your wireless, by entering the below, once done press the blue button on the remote for 'Manual IP Configuration'

  • Your wireless network name, be careful as this is case sensitive and the Sky remote shows upper case and numbers before lower case characters
  • Set Security to the same as the Security Type earlier noted down
  • Leave Encryption as the default, this may change as/when you change the Security Type
  • Password, enter your wifi password, be careful as this is case sensitive and the Sky remote shows upper case and numbers before lower case characters
  • DHCP, this will default to 'ON'.
  • Press the blue button on the remote for 'Manual IP Configuration'



Step 13
Configure the network details as follows, then press Green button to save

  • IP Address of this sky box, as noted down earlier, use the arrow keys to go to the next set (i.e next dot)
  • Subnet 255.255.255.0
  • Gateway router, if your IP address above was 192.168.1.x then the router address will be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254. Or, if your IP address above was 192.168.0.x then then the router address will be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254. You may of course already know your router IP address, some routers even have a sticker on them containing this information, if you have signed into it previously via your web browser, this is the address you need
  • DNS: Your chosen DNS server, be very careful with the formatting/dots
  • Press Green button to save



Step 14
Should show connection to broadband router 'OK' if not something went wrong somewhere, or there was a typing mistake in one of the (unfortunately) many option.


Step 15
Turn the power off to the Sky box at the wall


Step 16
Use the below link to sign in to SmartStream using your VPN username and password, this will activate SmartStream for your current broadband IP address. It is recommended you do this from a computer.

Should your broadband connection IP address change (if your router restarts or your ISP resets your connection) you will need to repeat this step of signing in, to update our systems.




Step 17
Power up the Sky box and try On Demand content



Removal Guide

Scroll right to Network then press the Select button

Press the Red Button for Reset
