Mac OS X - SmartStream


Here you can find SmartStream setup information for your chosen device and also which services you can access whilst using SmartStream.

You can use the Table of Contents on the right hand side of this window to navigate between the different sections.


Install Guide


Step 1
Choose the closest SmartStream DNS server to your current location using the below list, you will need this later.




Step 2
Retrieve your VPN username and password, if you are a new member this is contained in the StreamVia Account Information email you received after ordering.




Step 3
Click the Apple logo in the top-left hand corner of your screen, and select System Preferences




Step 4
Click Network from the Internet & Wireless section




Step 5
Near the top of the window, click the Location drop down menu




Step 6
Click Edit Locations from the Location drop down menu




Step 7
Click the + button to add a new location




Step 8
Enter a name for this new location for example StreamVia SmartStream, then click Done




Step 9
You should see your new Location has been selected already, click Apply




Step 10
On the left hand side of the window, choose the Network Connection that you are using to connect to the Internet - in this example we are using 'Wi-Fi' - typically signified by a green circle, as shown below. With the active Network Connection selected then click Advanced…

Click the DNS tab

Click the + button to enter the SmartStream DNS servers that you chose in Step 1 of this guide, make sure there are no typing mistakes! Click Ok when completed.


Only the SmartStream DNS servers should be listed, if you have other entries use the minus (-) button to remove them.





Step 13
Click Apply




Step 14
Use the below link to sign in to SmartStream using your VPN username and password, this will activate SmartStream for your current broadband IP address.

Should your broadband connection IP address change (if your router restarts or your ISP resets your connection) you will need to repeat this step of signing in, to update our systems.




Step 15
Reboot/restart your computer


Step 16
Clear browser cache/history/cookies if required, then simply open the website you wish to unlock


Step 17
To disable SmartStream go back to Network Preferences and change the Location back to Automatic






Removal Guide


Step 1
Click the Apple logo in the top-left hand corner of your screen, and select System Preferences




Step 2
Click Network from the Internet & Wireless section




Step 3
Near the top of the window, click the Location drop down menu


Step 4
Click Edit Locations from the Location drop down menu


Step 5
Select the SmartStream location you created initially, click the - (minus) button then click Done


Step 6
Click Apply


Step 7
Reboot your computer, then clear all browser cache/cookies/history if required.
