iPhone/iPad - OpenVPN


Here you can find setup information for your chosen VPN and also how to fix any problems you might encounter.

You can use the Table of Contents on the right hand side of this window to navigate between the different sections.

You must have a Residential VPN account to use this service.


Install Guide



Step 1
Install the OpenVPN Connnect App. App Store link below.

Make sure you continue reading below, i.e Step 2 onwards, you also need to install the StreamVia configuration AFTER installing the App.



Step 2
Next, you need to download and transfer the OpenVPN configuration files to your device. There are 3 ways to do this:

  • Follow the steps below, to download the OpenVPN configuration files from our Client Area, directly to your iOS device
  • Download the files on a computer, then email the files to yourself, access the email on your iOS device
  • Email our Support team, ask them to email to you the OpenVPN configuration files so you can access the email on your iOS device



Step 3
Retrieve your VPN username, VPN password and OpenVPN Configuration Files from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:

Step 4
After tapping Download OpenVPN Configuration Files, from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area, you will be prompted to accept the download.

Tap Download.




Step 5
Tap the arrow pointing down icon, shown by the red arrow on the image below, to access your downloads.

Then tap the zip file downloaded in the previous step.




Step 6
With the Downloads window now open, tap the zip file downloaded in the previous step.




Step 6
After tapping on the zip file, it will extract a blue folder, with the same name as the zip file, shown by the red circle in the below image.




Step 7
To make things easier to see, we recommend you change to List view.

Tap the icon, top right of the window. Then, select List.

Now tap the blue folder, to open the folder with the configuration files




Step 8
You will now see 6 OpenVPN configuration files. If your screen is small, like the photo below, the full name may be shortened.

You will now see 6 OpenVPN configuration files. There are 2 groups of configuration files:

  • Port 1, 2, 3 are labelled 'Performance', these are typically the fastest
  • Port 4, 5, 6 are labelled 'Fallback', these may be required from some restricted locations
  • We recommend you experiment, to see which works best for you.



We recommend you start with the top one, Port 1 - Performance, tap this to import this option.




Step 9
Your chosen OpenVPN Profile will now open. Next, we need to send it to the OpenVPN App.

Tap the Share button, shown by the red arrow in the below image.




Step 10
Tap OpenVPN from the menu shown.

If you do not see an OpenVPN option, scroll to the very end of the line (to the right), tap More, then OpenVPN.




Step 11
The OpenVPN App will now open automatically, showing Import Profile at the top of the screen.

Tap Add below the OpenVPN configuration that you are importing.




Step 12
Enter your Username from 'Step 3', enable Save Password, then enter your VPN Password from 'Step 3' also.

Then, tap Add top right.




Step 13
Tap Allow if prompted similar to the below image, this generally only happens the first time you import an OpenVPN configuration file.




Step 14
You will be prompted for one of the following, to accept the OpenVPN configuration import:

  • Your iOS Passcode, a numerical code used to unlock you device
  • FaceID
  • TouchID






Step 15
From within the OpenVPN App, you should now see the configuration file that you imported.

Move the VPN Slider, to On.

You must only use this OpenVPN App to connect and disconnect the VPN.




Step 16
Tap Yes if prompted similar to the below image, this generally only happens the first time you connect an OpenVPN configuration file.




Fixing Problems

User Authentication Failed


This usually means you have a mistake in the VPN username or the VPN Password.

Retrieve your VPN username and VPN password from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:


Please note, the below is a screenshot of the Client Area. Use the link above, to access the Client Area.



  • Then, stop the VPN from reconnecting, by moving the slider to Off
  • Tap the pencil icon, next to the VPN option
  • Correct the VPN username and/or VPN password
  • Save, top right
  • Try and move the VPN slider to On again




Failed to Import Profile


This occurs when you attempt to use 'Import Profile' with the 'URL' option - it is not possible to import our profiles using this method.


Please follow 'Step 2' onwards of the above Install Guide, this advises the correct proceedure to import our OpenVPN configuration files.

Or, get in touch with our support team and they will email you the configuration files to your device.


Cannot connect VPN from Settings

When using OpenVPN, you must only use the OpenVPN App to connect and disconnect the VPN.

It is not possible to connect/disconnect the VPN from the main iOS VPN Settings, there is a note on that screen:
