Android - OpenVPN


Here you can find setup information for your chosen VPN and also how to fix any problems you might encounter.

You can use the Table of Contents on the right hand side of this window to navigate between the different sections.

You must have a Residential VPN account to use this service.


Install Guide


Step 1
Install the OpenVPN Connnect App, from the Google Play store:

Make sure you continue reading below, i.e Step 2 onwards, you also need to install the StreamVia configuration AFTER installing the App.



Step 2
Next, you need to download and transfer the OpenVPN configuration files to your device. There are 3 ways to do this:

  • Follow the steps below, to download the OpenVPN configuration files from our Client Area, directly to your Android device
  • Download the files on a computer, then email the files to yourself, access the email on your Android device
  • Email our Support team, ask them to email to you the OpenVPN configuration files so you can access the email on your Android device



Step 3
Retrieve your VPN username, VPN password and OpenVPN Configuration Files from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:


Please note, the below is a screenshot of the Client Area. Use the link above, to access the Client Area.




Step 4
Tap Download OpenVPN Configuration Files, from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area.

The OpenVPN Configuration files will then be downloaded to your device, to the Downloads folder.



Step 5
If your Android device does not already have Files by Google installed, install it now from the Google Play store using the link below.

This is required to extract/open the zip file, with the configurations in.




Step 6
Open the Files by Google app, then tap your Downloads folder




Step 7
Tap the BT-xxxx.zip file you downloaded in 'Step 3' / 'Step 4' of this guide:




Step 8
Tap Extract




Step 9
Tap Finished




Step 10
Start the OpenVPN Connect App

From the Import Profile screen, make sure File is selected, navigate to your Downloads folder if not already selected, then select the BT-xxxx folder




Step 11
You will now see 6 OpenVPN configuration files. There are 2 groups of configuration files:

  • Port 1, 2, 3 are labelled 'Performance', these are typically the fastest
  • Port 4, 5, 6 are labelled 'Fallback', these may be required from some restricted locations
  • We recommend you experiment, to see which works best for you.



We recommend you start with the top one, Port 1 - Performance, tap this to import this option.




Step 12
With the option selected that you wish to import, tap Import




Step 13
Enter your Username from 'Step 3', enable Save Password, then enter your VPN Password from 'Step 3' also.

Then, tap Add top right.




Step 14
From within the OpenVPN App, you should now see the configuration file that you imported.

Move the VPN Slider, to On.

You must only use this OpenVPN App to connect and disconnect the VPN.




Fixing Problems

User Authentication Failed


This usually means you have a mistake in the VPN username or the VPN Password.

Retrieve your VPN username and VPN password from the 'My Services' section of the Client Area:

  • Then, stop the VPN from reconnecting, by moving the slider to Off
  • Tap the pencil icon, next to the VPN option
  • Correct the VPN username and/or VPN password
  • Save, top right
  • Try and move the VPN slider to On again
